1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy, based on preference)

12 oz rotini or fusilli pasta

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 green bell pepper, diced

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of salted boiling water, add the rotini or fusilli pasta. Cook according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

    Brown the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the Italian sausage. Use a wooden spoon to break it into crumbles as it cooks. When browned, about 5-7 minutes, remove the sausage and drain excess fat, leaving a little for flavor.

      Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add diced onion, garlic, and green bell pepper. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and fragrant, about 4-5 minutes.

        Combine Ingredients: Return the cooked sausage to the skillet. Stir in the marinara sauce, drained pasta, ricotta cheese, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), and season with salt and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly coated with the sauce.

          Prepare for Baking: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Pour the sausage and pasta mixture into the prepared dish and spread evenly.
